Bicycle Rim Rust Removal

I bought an old Schwinn Breeze bicycle at the thrift on Thursday for 5 bucks. The bicycle is solid, but the rims are terribly rusty. I bought a courser steel wool, and tried removing the rust. Comes off slow, but ok. Gonna be a bitch!
