What is good to use to clean a bicycle rim?

My dad and I are restoring an old bike from the 50's and one of the things we are doing is cleaning up the spokes. We are using some type of stainless steel cleaner stuff and it worked really well on the front tire but for some reason it won't work on the back tire. Just wondering if there is anything else we can try using. Thanks

I normally use steel wool for this, but you have to use it in moderation. If there is rust, you can often remove it with it, but don’t rub too much or you will remove the finish underneath. Incidentally, I am very interested in old bicycles. May I see a picture of it?
SOS pads or really any steel wool always worked well for me.
There is also a cleaner called Nevr-Dull that is awesome for polishing metal. You can find Nevr-Dull in the automotive section at most Wal-Marts.
I’ve had a similar problem with my bike rim, it’s really rusty and when I take a rag or some steel wool and spray some WD-40 on it and rub the rusted area the rust will come off pretty good
if rust is your problem, other wise you can buy replacement spokes online
I hope I was helpful
Try bug off and navel jelly. Good luck!
